    skin care fragrance

When it comes to buying skin care products, you'll be hard pressed to find products with no fragrance.  Most moisturizers and even cleansers contain fragrance in them because that fragrance is used to mask the scent of the other ingredients in the product that don't smell very good.  Also, the cosmetics manufacturers are aware that us women like to buy products that smell "pretty."

The problem with skin care fragrance (specifically if you have dry or sensitive skin) is they cause skin irritations and allergic reactions.

    Not all scent is bad

Fragrances are composed of artificial ingredients and harsh alcohols; another reason why it should not be a part of your skin care products if you have dry or sensitive skin.

So, how do you enjoy products with a delightful scent without including fragrance?  Simple.

    emollients

A few days ago I shared with you how you need to make sure your summer moisturizer has humectants in them.  Now, let's flip it a bit and look at another popular skin care ingredient...Emollients.

What you don't need in your skin care products is emollients.  Sure, popular brands use them but if you have dry skin conditions, emollients like lanolin, mineral oil, and petroleum do nothing for your skin.

Emollients are skin care ingredients that lubricate the skin.

  6. Dryness Represented

Among the many skin conditions that women of color experience, dry patches are probably the most common.  The rest of the body may be dry but there are certain concentrated areas that tend to be even more dry.  This could be the result of a number of conditions.  Eczema is one but the other is Seborrhea dermatitis.

    Seborrhea dermatitis
is common in people of color and is identified by the crusty, scaly patches on the skin that also have an oily coating.  The cause of Seborrhea dermatitis is unknown but it is believed that yeast may be the culprit.  Again, we are back to diet.
