Oily Skin Type© Michelle Howard Smith - All Rights Reserved
In our quest to better care for our skin, I began a series to define specific skin types (There are 5)- how to identify that skin type and how to best care for that skin type. I recently discussed the Combination Skin Type. If you recall, the Combination Skin Type is identified by normal to dry skin on the mouth, cheek and eye areas with a few dry and a few oily patches (also know as T-Zone area). This month I'll discuss the Oily Skin Type. The Oily skin type overproduces oils and is very greasy, shiny, has clogged pores and often has break outs (I unfortunately am the Oily skin type). Although oily skin is quite oily, it still requires a light water based moisturizer. To care for oily skin, just as with combination & normal skin types, your skin care regimen should consist of a gentle facial wash that will remove dirt and oils without removing necessary moisture. While the skin needs oil in order to keep it moisturized and supple, when there is an excessive amount of oil due to overactive sebaceous glands, the skin is more prone to breakouts. On the flip side, you don't want
to use products that dry out your skin too much in an effort to get rid
of your oil skin. Avoid products that contain alcohol. Alcohol is too
drying on the skin. This causes the skin to produce even more oils. Recently Viewed Items:
