Acne Breakouts - Is Your Hair The Culprit?

Did you know that acne breakouts
on your face, neck, upper back and even your scalp could be caused by
your hair? If you are having existing acne breakouts, the ingredients
and oils in your hair care products can be making your breakouts
worse. Couple that with the dirt that accumulates on your hair
throughout the day and your chances of acne breakouts are greatly
increased if you wear your hair loose. The cheeks and jaw line are
especially vulnerable.
Other areas prone to acne breakouts
caused by your hair that you may not have considered are the back of
your neck and upper back. If your hair is long, the oils and residue
come in contact with those areas as well. If you have sensitive skin
or problems with back acne, dirty or "weighed" down hair just
exacerbates (intensifies and makes worst) the problem.
Just
imagine the dirt and oils from your hair rubbing up against your
forehead, cheeks and jaw line. All of that contact between dirty hair
and skin leads to clogged pores and for those of us with oily skin, an
increase in oil production which is also a contributor to acne
breakouts.
In our quest for beautiful hair and gorgeous
hairstyles, us women tend to smooth, spritz and spray just about
anything on our tresses during our daily "get fine" regimen. Unless
you are washing your hair daily (which most black women, including
myself don't), the products (gels, hair sprays, mousse, grease,
moisturizer etc.) you are applying to your hair are building up on the
hair shaft. Over time, even after a good wash, there remains residual
hair product on your hair. This is where using a clarifying face cleanser and clarifying shampoo come in quite useful.
Natural clarifying shampoos remove stubborn build
up from the hair, giving you truly clean hair. Cleaner hair can then
flow freely and caress your face for a soft look without causing an
acne breakout. Lessen your chances of acne breakouts by
cleansing your hair with a clarifying shampoo at least once per week to
keep your hair free of dirt, oils and product residue. |
