Winter Skin Care Tips

The problem with dry skin in the winter is that it's usually worst off than when the temperatures are warmer.  This is largely in part due to neglect.

How many times have you jumped out of the shower, toweled off and just threw on your clothes without moisturizing just because you felt too cold to stay naked long enough to do so?

Besides, it takes longer to get dressed in the winter since you have to put on extra clothes.  So you don't have time to spend slathering down your body in moisturizer right? No excuse.

It's time to get serious about skin care, especially winter skin care.  During the winter months your skin is prone to being dryer than ever.

Below is an extensive list of winter skin care advice tips that will help you to obtain and maintain healthier, better conditioned skin during the frigid, colder months of the year.

1) Avoid taking hot showers and baths. The hot water strips your skin of the natural oils that help maintain its moisture balance.

2) When washing your body, opt for using gel cleansers over foam cleansers which also strip your body of its natural oils.

3) Use warm water when washing your body and follow with a cream moisturizer while your skin is still damp.

4) Since cold weather dries your skin out faster, layer your clothing in extremely low temperatures.

5) Don't neglect to pamper your hands and feet.  These areas often get neglected.  Use a heavier moisturizer like Shea Butter on your feet. (knees and elbows too!)

6) Carry moisturizing cream with you for extra care when you are out.

7) Avoid using products with fragrance oil, alcohol and other harsh un-natural ingredients which serve to only further dry out your skin.

8) Wear a sunscreen with a  protection of SPF15, if your moisturizer doesn't already contain it.  Normally, I recommend SPF30 or higher but unless you are going to spend an extended amount of time outdoors (which if you are anything like me, you won't because it's too cold), SPF15 is sufficient.

9) Upon returning home nightly, after bathing, showering or whatever it is you to do clean up, moisturize!  You should moisturize your skin no less than twice daily during the winter.

10) Bathe in a mixture of milk & honey, oatmeal or bath water with a few drops of almond oil added to it.  Each of these natural sources provides your skin with a silky soft feel.

11) Dry brush your skin weekly before cleansing.  This will help remove dead skin cells and allow your moisturizer to be more effective.

12) Add flax seed oil to your daily supplementation.

13) Use a humidifier in your home where you spend the most time (probably the bedroom).  Humidifiers add moisture to air that's been depleted as a result of indoor heat.

Follow these winter skin care advice tips so that when the warm weather comes, you can take "skin restoration" off your list of things to do.
